The evening breakfast

The place where the sun is trapped
Having breakfast today felt like having dinner. That’s what happens when you wake up at 14:30 in December in Stockholm. It’s dark outside.

I recalled I have on my hard drive this photo of a strange statue called Fabeldjur that I took last week on Norr Mälarstrand in Kungsholmen.

In my opinion it looks like a dog surprising a swan. I just wanted to share it with you in this special day which I actually missed, by waking up when it was already dark.

All Saints Day

Last Saturday, on November 1st, All Saints Day was celebrated in Sweden. During this day, most Swedes visits the graves to light candles, lit areas appearing all over cemeteries.

In the evening I decided to go to Norra begravningsplatsen, a cemetery 20 minutes cycling from where I live, to take a few photos of the graves.

This evening was one of the first this year clearly reminding that winter is approaching. When I left, my bicycle was covered in frost and the ride home was face freezing.

Getting ready for Thailand

Rain and wind. Stockholm is under siege today. I’m preparing the list of stuff to put in the luggage for the 2 weeks holiday in Thailand, starting this Tuesday.

I did a search on the web for tips about taking photos in Thailand and found the following:

  • A Photographer’s Guide to Bangkok who describes Thailand as being the best country for beginners to Southeast Asia.
  • Thailand pictures – a collection of types of images one may take in Thailand, with notes on photography. For instance from the Pictures of Thais section, we find out that’s recommended to ask politely before taking a picture of someone, using this expression: Thai ruup dai mai, krap (male speaker), ka (female speaker). I’ll remember the Krap part for sure.
  • Photography Thailand Forum – a rich forum with a lot of tips. Registration and some basic participation in the forum is required for viewing some of the posts, but there are threads with plenty of accessible information, like this one.
  • Thai photo blogs – daily photos from Thailand, accompanied by stories. One may see how Thai fighting cocks are bathed after fight trainings.

Here’s an image from exactly one week ago, when it was sunny, taken in Gärdet, Stockholm:

Don’t miss the City Hall tower

This Sunday I managed to visit the City Hall tower for the first time since I’ve been living in Stockholm. I had 3 previous failed attempts at doing this.

First time was last summer, I got there at 16:50, 10 minutes before they closed and the last person from the queue to enter was the one before me.

Second attempt was in September, I got there at 16:10, early according to me, but late according to the schedule for September. They closed at 16.

Third time was on October 1st. I made sure I’m there even earlier, at around 12, but the door was locked.

A woman in the souvenir shop told me the season ended one day before, on 30 September. “See you in May, next year”, she said merrily.

If you’re in Stockholm, don’t miss the view from the City Hall tower. And check the opening hours before going. ;)
